Chatterton and the STA

Last year, I shipped one of Critical Aspect's new STA (single tank adapter) to John Chatterton. (For pictures of the STA, please see earlier blogs). After a few months, I e-mailed John to inquire as to how he liked it. He wrote back explaining that he was saving the STA for single tank diving later-on in the Winter. (Obviously, with colder water temperatures in the Winter...single tank dives would be more the norm.) Well, months more have gone by and it is now Winter so I again wrote John inquiring about his experiences using the STA. John wrote back, "Gary, I have used the STA a few times and it is great. Far superior to the other adapters out there in both design and construction." Isn't that awesome?! And this opinion has been mirrored by other happy divers who own the STA. Like the Pterodactyl backplate, the STA uses such a simple design...no more complicated than it absolutely has to be to do what it needs to do. It continues to amaze me that the simple concepts that I have used in designing the Pterodactyl backplate and the STA have (apparently) NOT been thought of by anyone else. It has occured to me that the reason for this might be...I'M CRAZY. Although that may be entirely correct, the overwhelmingly possitive feedback that I get quite often about my products leads me to conclude that I'm not crazy...the established diving equipment companies are either afraid to come-out with anything that's different OR they are not creative enough to think of ways to solve the problems caused by the conventional gear that's out there...that they make! Well, I am creative and not afraid to creat new "stuff" whenever I see the need to. Certain aspects of myself may indeed be "crazy" but being creative requires thinking outside the box and not holding yourself to the restraining bonds that others adhere to. Howelse? I am creative and NOT AFRAID to put something out there that's different. If you want great gear that's better than the other stuff, I'm your guy. Support this starving inventor...buy my stuff!!!
