Advanced Diver Evaluates
This past week, I shipped a Pterodactyl Backplate/Harness System to John Rawlings, Contributing Editor of Advanced Diver Magazine. The particular unit I sent was one of the initial samples from the Italian machine shop that I am now using to manufacture this product. These initial samples, identical to the production models that will be in-hand next month, have a beautiful sandblasted finish. John commented, "The backplate looks really, really good. The Italians did a fine job." As with many other divers, John also mentioned, "I'm excited to try it out...I'm sick to death of struggling into my harness before every dive!" I'm quite sure that the unique design of the Pterodactyl will end forever John's aggravation with "gearing-up". In an earlier blog, I commented on my quest to design a modified Pterodactyl to fit the most commonly-used rebreathers. This quest will commence next month and, with any luck, I will have the "Pterodactyl R" by year's end. Currently, however, I know that the Pterodactyl fits the Megalodon CCR and also the Kiss rebreathers. John reported, "The Pterodactyl easily fits the Kiss with no modification whatsoever...just like any other backplate. One of my main buddies dives with a Megalodon CCR and we're going to try matching it with the Pterodactyl as well to see how that works." So there you have it. John will be diving the Pterodactyl a great deal over the next month and I will be happy to relay his feedback to you.
